Point, Yemen.
You can't always get what you want - even if all you want is to destroy a people and country that are the only ones actively fighting against an ongoing genocide.
Not all that long ago the US Empire warred Yemen. More specifically we backed the Saudis with money and weapons so they could war Yemen - much like the Empire is currently doing with Ukraine to Russia, like it did in the 80s with Afghanistan to Russia, like it did in 2003 with Georgia to Russia; ha, no but seriously the Empire’s main weapon the world over is proxy-type wars - though not just against Russia, don’t be silly. So the war is going…and going…and going…some ten years later, Yemen wins. That’s right, one of the richest Arab nations, backed by the most militant country in the world (the US) lost to one of the poorest countries in the region (like with Vietnam or Afghanistan - though winning isn’t really always the goal as Julian Assange let us know).
So treaties signed, war over. The Yemeni still don’t control all of their country as there remains an externally backed puppet dictator ruling somewhere in the North. But more recently the now globally known Yemeni, sometimes called Houthis, though more accurately - and less derisively - named Ansar-Allah, have had to spool back up. Why? What terroristic plots are they up to now? you ask. Well, they had the gall to attack Israeli ships as they passed by its coast just because Israel wanted to, and was, viciously and publicly exterminating a whole people (genocide), those of the Gaza Strip with the West Bank not far behind.
So that happens for a few months, and Ansar Allah are crushing it - and by it I mean Israeli-based maritime commerce; shutting down and bankrupting a large port and stopping all Israeli ships from travelling through one of the world’s most used economic waterways (roughly 15% global maritime commerce, and even higher percentage of global shipping containers). But wait, where was the US as it normally unwaveringly backs Israeli slaughtering of men, women, children, journalists, healthcare workers, AID workers, and some of their own hostages to name just a few, you ask. Fair and solid question I say. The Empire had some of its strongest ships - aircraft carriers - in the region, specifically the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, but even their presence couldn’t adequately protect the trade route.
Israel agrees to a ceasefire. “What?” and “Unbelievable!?” I bet is what you were/potentially still are even now thinking, but they did. But then, oh wait, we all remember they routinely go in and “mow the grass” (their fun turn of phrase for literally killing off some of the population), then agree to ceasefires and then never, ever, ever…ever live up to them. And wouldn’t you believe the cycle that’s been going on for about 75 years now continued. When it was time to live up to their part of the bargain, they simply reneged. Though even this is a favorable retelling, as they never actually lived up to the stop bombing part of the ceasefire in southern Lebanon against Hezbollah, or in the West Bank, or in Gaza.
So what was Yemen doing during this time of ceasefire? Staying true my guy. Once the ceasefire was agreed to Ansar-Allah stopped all their attacks. But as we all know: genociders gonna genocide. And so it was. Israel having never really stopped attacking, started to up its game, and as the ceasefire was brushed aside so were the months-old cob webs on the Yemeni’s armaments. And we’re back to where we were (but with a lot more people, mostly civilians in Gaza, the West Bank, and Yemen, dead) with Ansar-Allah restating its intentions: to attack Israel until it stops its multi-front genocide. But with Israel being America’s “unsinkable aircraft carrier” in the region (the US Empire sinks it hooks into - or in the case of Israel just inherits creations of the British Empire - nations in regions to act as a base to project American power; the low-side guess of global American military bases is about 800, the high-side guess for China is about 10) it had to set sail to protect its Godless heathens assets in the region. The Empire attacks Ansar-Allah again. So they respond by widening the net of acceptable targets to include US ships - commercial and military alike. Once again, though it never truly got back up to speed, shutting down one of the globe’s most popular shipping routes.
Enter Daddy Trump. Biden only attacked Yemen like a pussy, with kidd gloves, total bitch stuff and I know cause Trump told me. And after that Trump also let us know, he’d be getting serious with Yemen, unlike dementia patient; how the fuck was that guy President?!; you really still think America is a democracy!?!; former President Joey B. And sent in an aircraft carrier strike group - yes, of the kind that was already there. But this time we’d be hitting land targets, taking out their ability to launch strikes, really getting at em. A type of winning that would be hard to imagine if you weren’t just about to see it in real life.
Aaand we lost. I mean the US Empire left the area cause it had better things to do. Could’ve won, but honestly was a tired-of-that-feeling type situation - you know how that goes. Multiple missiles and drones got too close to our carriers making them take evasive maneuvers. How evasive were they? So evasive we lost some aircraft off our aircraft carriers (you had one job). So after losing about 13 of our multi-hundreds of millions a piece reaper drones that the Empire was forced into using to try and collect real-time intel because the stupid Yemeni’s would roll out a hypersonic missile launch then roll their launcher back safely underground (aka cheating) to the multi-thousands of dollars anti-air rockets the Yemeni had; and after its carriers had to take such evasive maneuvers it threw some planes and their tow tractors into the water; and after destroying anywhere between none and virtually none of Ansar-Allah’s fighting capability (yes, the Empire killed almost exclusively civilians); and after not stopping Ansar-Allah from attacking Israel while it genocides; The Empire left, mission accomplished.
So one of the few actual war-based humanitarian interventions - in stark contrast to the Empire’s marketed “humanitarian interventions” where it destroys the government and society then leaves everyone and everything significantly worse off: Vietnam, Nicaragua, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. etc. - marches on. That’s right, the Yemeni are doing something so profoundly good, it’s what the Empire’s propaganda system tells you it’s constantly doing but never actually does; don’t be jelly. Only time will tell if the Yemeni’s can keep holding on and fighting the good fight, but after achieving multiple victories along the way, it seems and sounds by all accounts as though they’ve quite the tenacious grip. Point, Yemen.
